2TB iCloud storage might be the most valuable subscription Apple offers

I used to be torn between having 2TB storage or Apple One for the same price, but as time goes by the better choice has started to become more obvious.

So what does Apple One offer? 200GB of storage, Apple Music subscription, Apple TV and Arcade (games). Roughly 10$ monthly with my current payment plan. For the same amount, I can get 2TB i.e. 10 more times worth of storage. What should I pick?

For quite a while I had leaned towards the Apple One choice, because it seemingly offered more stuffs within one package. But as time goes by and priorities changed, I was quite surprised to find myself having a change of heart.

I don’t listen to music that much often anymore, my noise canceling headphones usually function in transparent mode instead. I haven’t touched the TV for months, and gaming started to hit rock bottom in my priority list. 200GB of storage, an amount I once thought was so abundant, consumed within just 2 years.

That prompted me to switch plan. Turned out, 2TB is worth much more than what I had expected.

As I accumulate more and more experience, I collect more photos and digital memories. Sometimes videos, even lengthy ones. Those eat up space way too fast. I could look through and clean up, and stop hogging and hoarding all of them. But I just keep hoarding nonetheless. All photos that are precious to me and I can’t find any single one I could delete.

Once an event passes, you can’t experience it again. You can only relive it in your memory. But if you captured and converted it into some form of digital codex, you can draw the memories from it and recall the event each time you come across it and might even find yourself mumbling “oh there was that one time, good old days”. It’s paying memory dividends for years to come. I think that’s the true value of storing memories in the form of pictures and videos.

And now as my life has turned into a new chapter, I further realize how nice and valuable it is to be so easy and hassle-free to capture and store all significant moments of my life. To remind me not to forget and relive all the good memories and experiences that I would have had only one chance to feel instead. If I can ditch all those features I don’t use and can 10x my storage so that I can hoard all those memories, even if it might get a tad more expensive, it’s more than worth it.

As an iPhone user, thank you Apple for making it so straightforward and cheap to do that :)
